When he popped into a branch of fashion chain Uniqlo with his wife Mirka, it brought the high street to a standstill.
Fans crowded round the shop for a glimpse of him and a mile-long tailback built up from Wimbledon Broadway up to Wimbledon Village.

One onlooker said: ‘It was chaos… people just ditched their cars and rushed over.’
Police helped get the traffic moving and escorted Federer, 37, back to his car – though he stopped to talk to fans and pose for pictures.
Uniqlo sponsors Federer and closed the store so the couple could have a private visit – though whether they actually had to pay for very much wasn’t clear.
