Marcos Rojo set off for Manchester United’s mid-season training camp in Dubai in very bad fashion, boasting a pair of ludicrous Gucci slippers.

United, much like their Northern rivals Liverpool, are heading to the Middle East for a warm-weather training camp having come out the other end of a hectic festive period in need of a break.

And as Rojo took to his seat on United’s plane ahead of an early-morning flight, the Portuguese star couldn’t resist showing off his tartan slippers, worth £675, on his Instagram story.

However, while Rojo appeared proud of his footwear – which was also decorated with kangaroo fur – his team-mates, understandably, may not have been so complimentary.

Mourinho’s side head to Dubai with Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Darmian awaiting them in the United Arab Emirates City.

Lukaku returned from a horror head injury incurred against Southampton at the end of December to score in stoppage time during United’s FA Cup win over derby. The Belgian was already happily awaiting his team-mates in Dubai on Sunday.

Mourinho will be keen to move into some not-so-familiar surroundings after enduring one of his less memorable festive periods – coupled with his ongoing war of words with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte – which would have no doubt taken its toll on his squad.

During a six-week spell that saw United play 11 matches, they came out victorious on six occasions, with a suckering defeat by Premier League leaders Manchester City and a shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Championship Bristol City the most scarring.

Understandably, it’s a trip Mourinho has been eagerly awaiting, but claimed was awaiting Stoke’s FA Cup result to make a decision on whether to go or not. Luckily for him, Stoke’s exit from the FA Cup provided the time he needed to execute his plans.

‘Everybody wants to go to Dubai,’ Mourinho said. ‘A week of good training, good facilities.’
