Revealed: How Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards uses a motorised ashtray that sucks in cigarette smoke to keep the peace with healthy-living Mick Jagger

  • The 75-year-old also has a hotel bell so that he can summon his guitar technician

Keith Richards has long enjoyed winding up Sir Mick Jagger, most notably when he claimed in his memoirs that his Rolling Stones bandmate had a ‘tiny todger’.

These days, the guitarist is, though, apparently going to extreme lengths not to antagonise Jagger.

‘Today, I learned that Keith Richards has a motorised ashtray that absorbs smoke, so his habit won’t upset Mick Jagger backstage,’ discloses music writer Neil McCormick.

A friend insists Keef isn’t using it on Jagger’s account, but it’s appropriate that the veterans’ latest lucrative world jaunt is called the No Filter tour.

Richards also has a ‘hotel bell to summon his guitar technician. Sounds more Downton Abbey than rock ’n’ roll.

In an interview earlier this year Richards, 75, revealed he was reining in his infamous party lifestyle and cutting down on alcohol and his beloved cigarettes.

Father-of-eight Jagger, 76, underwent heart surgery in April and is said to be dedicated to his health regime, travelling everywhere with a private chef who prepares most of his dishes.

Yesterday the group were forced to rescheduled their Miami Gardens performance as Florida braces for Hurricane Dorian.
