Roman Kemp pokes fun at his dad Martin for hailing radio broadcast as the ‘best he’s ever heard’

Roman Kemp poked fun at his father, Martin Kemp, on Monday after he hailed a radio broadcast as ‘the best he’s ever heard’.

Despite his dad’s statement, the radio presenter, 30, was quick to remind his father that, indeed, that was his own profession.

Sharing the comical exchange on Twitter, Martin made the statement following Arsenal’s late win over AFC Bournemouth on the weekend.

As is customary with all 3pm kick-off games, it was not broadcast on TV.

Instead, Martin was left to follow the game via radio broadcast.

Taking to Twitter after the game, he hailed the work of Talk Sport, saying: ‘Arsenal on @talkSPORT2 was the best broadcast I have ever heard. That is how you do it!!’

Following up with his dad’s bold statement, Roman replied: ‘And your son is a radio host… cheers’.

Fans quickly saw the funny side of Roman’s dig.

One wrote: ‘Absolutely screaming’.

‘Arsenal’s always first love, mate… no hard feelings!’, another quipped.

The pair enjoy a teasing relationship, with Martin and wife Shirlie Kemp recently revealing they planned on pranking their son with their surprise reveal as Cat and Mouse on the Masked Singer.

Back in January, the Spandau Ballet singer, 61, and his wife of 35 years, Wham singer Shirlie, 60, were voted out but left the panel and viewers shocked during the special episode called Time Machine Special.

And after their son Roman who took to his social media pages to reveal his utter shock at seeing his parents unveiled, the married couple have said they only did the show in the first place to embarrass him.

Appearing on Roman’s Capital Breakfast show on Monday morning, Martin revealed: ‘You know what, we actually go the exact right reaction, because the only reason we did it in the first place was to embarrass him [Roman]!’

Roman then directed a question to mum Shirlie: ‘Mum, I want to ask, why did you not tell me? Did you not think I might want to know this?’

Shirlie quipped: ‘No! Because look at the pranks you’ve done on me since you were about 12 years old, and as soon as they said Masked Singer I thought, this is going to be so good once Ro finds out…’

The show returned on Saturday for its Time Machine Special episode, as each contestant sang a song from a different time.

Martin and Shirley also arrived in the Loose Women studios on Monday to discuss being unmasked as the duo on the show.

Speaking about Roman’s reaction, Shirley told the panel: ‘I was deep in denial I was saying, “well you know I would never do that type of thing” they had their suspicions, but I kept throwing them off.

‘If they [children] lived at home it would have been really hard because you leave the house, covered, head-to-toe, you wear balaclavas, gloves, everything.’

Martin added: ‘When they send you home they put you back in balaclavas, gloves and one night we couldn’t get picked up and they had to put us in a normal taxi the poor man must have been thinking “what an earth have I picked up”

Before the singing duo were revealed, the judges had their say on who they thought was behind the mask – as Mo guessed Danny Dyer and daughter Dani, while Davina went for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Head.

Rita guessed it was David Walliams and Amanda Holden, while Jonathan said Maisie Smith and Adam Woodyatt.

But they were sent into a spin as Martin and Shirlie unexpectedly revealed themselves as the people behind the masks.

A shocked Davina said: ‘That was the best reveal ever, you blew my mind.’

Capital FM host Roman couldn’t believe his eyes as he sat and watched the reveal with his parents and his sister Harley Moon, 31.

Harley shared the moment they found out to her Instagram Stories, which dad Martin had filmed from the couch.

An animated Roman stood up with his hand over his mouth before repeatedly shouting ‘I knew it’ as he branded his mum a ‘liar’ for not revealing it – before going to give her a hug.

Roman also shared a reaction video to his own Instagram, showing his confused face as he watched the show.

‘Can someone please explain what is going on,’ questioned the Capital presenter, before flipping the camera to his parents on the TV.

‘ARE YOU JOKING THO,’ wrote Martin and Shirlie’s son in his caption.

While he also hilariously tweeted: ‘I JUST SHOUTED THE PHRASE ‘TAKE IT OFF’ TO MY PARENTS I CANT UNDO THAT’, after also writing: ‘ARE YOU F***ING JOKING’.

Shirlie revealed the news to her Instagram followers by simply sharing a picture in the costumes and writing: ‘It was us!!!!’

Explaining why they decided to do the show to ITV, Shirlie said: ‘It is just so off the wall. It’s so much harder to sing in the mask than you imagine it will be’.

While Martin admitted that it wasn’t plain sailing, sharing his first performance nerves: ‘I was more nervous. I could literally hear my heart in my ears’.

And following the reveal, it was a split reaction from viewers as some were left in shock, while others had guessed correctly.

One viewer tweeted: ‘Wow… cat and mouse is Martin and Shirlie Kemp… blew me away!’

‘Oh my god one of the best reveals ever #catandmouse Martin and Shirlie Kemp absolutely brilliant,’ wrote another.
