Ronald Koeman insists he will ensure ‘commitment and professionalism’ after taking charge Barcelona

‘We need to create a different image to what we saw last week’: New boss Ronald Koeman insists he will ensure ‘commitment and professionalism’ after returning ‘home’ to take charge of crisis club Barcelona

New Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman will demand dedication from his stars to ensure there is no repeat of their Champions League catastrophe against Bayern Munich.

Koeman was officially unveiled as manager of the Spanish giants just five days after the most humiliating night in the club’s history as they crashed out of the competition with an 8-2 mauling by Bayern Munich.

The former Holland manager wants to keep Lionel Messi at the club but has refused to be drawn on his plans for the rest of the Camp Nou squad.

Speaking after signing his contract and being presented with a shirt by club president Josep Bartomeu, club legend Koeman said: ‘What we need to do is [create] a different image to what we saw last week against Bayern Munich.

‘That is not the Barcelona that we want to see. You have to be very happy to have the possibility to wear the Barcelona shirt.

‘To do that, you have to work with commitment, professionalism [and] everything you have inside. If you do that, then it will be…totally different to what it was last week.’
