Roseanne Barr supports Kanye West and his comments about Chicago

Roseanne Barr has thrown her support behind Kanye West saying people ‘do not want to hear the truth’ regarding Chicago after the rapper accused Barack Obama of not doing anything to help the city.

The 65-year-old comedian took to Twitter on Thursday to defend Kanye’s stance on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s city, which has become known for its violence.

‘@kanyewest is telling the truth about Rahm’s Chicago. Ppl do not want to hear the truth-that Chicago could be a better city for its citizens, but the establishment is corrupted,’ she tweeted.

Kanye came out in one of his Twitter rants last week saying: ‘Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed.’

The Chicago mayor, who Barr spoke of in her tweet, previously worked as Obama’s chief of staff.

‘Will @kanyewest save Chicago? what do you think?’ Barr later tweeted.

‘Let’s do something about #Chicago – all of us… instead of hurling insults and division. Let’s try efficient government and unity JUST THIS ONCE!’

Barr, like Kanye, is a President Trump supporter.

She defended her support of Trump on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show on Monday, saying she doesn’t ‘give a f**k’ what outraged people think.

After congratulating Barr on the high ratings her ‘Roseanne’ show reboot has received, Fallon acknowledged that some may not be happy with her success given her support for Trump.

‘Oh yeah, people are mad about that. But you know, I don’t give a f**k,’ Barr said.

‘I mean, everybody had to choose for themselves, according to their own conscience, who they felt was the lesser of two evils.

‘You know, everybody chose that, so I’m not going to put anybody down who didn’t vote like me. This is America, it’s a free country, and when you weigh it all together, I just felt like we needed a whole new thing. All the way. Bottom to top.’

The TV star has faced criticism given her support from Trump in the lead up to the 2016 election and the fact her character on ‘Roseanne’ is a supporter of the President.

Barr had earlier revealed that Trump called to personally congratulate her on the stellar ratings ‘Roseanne’ had received since its reboot in March following a 20-year hiatus.

‘He’s just happy for me,’ Barr said on Good Morning America when she revealed details of the call.

‘I’ve known him for many years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years, and so it was just a friendly conversation about working and television and ratings.’

She also spoke of Trump’s phone call during an interview at the Jerusalem Post Annual Conference in New York on Sunday.

‘He said ‘Congratulations on the ratings.’ He’s really into ratings like I am,’ Barr said.

The comedian, who is Jewish, said she went on to thank Trump for moving the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

‘I said, ‘Mr President, on behalf of my mother, I want to thank you… for moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Thank you so much’,’ she said.

‘And he said, ‘Well, you know a lot of presidents have promised it, but I wanted to get it done’.’

During the interview, Barr also addressed the fact that her character on her eponymous show is a Trump fan, which she says has nothing to do with her own political leanings.

‘I didn’t have Roseanne the character become a Trump supporter because I am,’ she said. ‘I had her become a Trump supporter because she’s a working class person and it is the working class that elected Donald Trump. So, in being true to that little demographic, I had to do it.

‘Besides, I just wanted someone to do it and none of the other actors – they were like, ‘No way’.’
