Rove McManus talks his new pilot Bring Back… Saturday Night

He won over fans with his self-titled variety show, Rove, from 2000 to 2009.

And now comedian Rove McManus is preparing to make his TV comeback with his new show, Bring Back… Saturday Night, that will be aired during pilot week.

The 44-year-old told TV Tonight that he has no qualms about the episode being filmed live and said he hopes audiences take to the show, which will air on Saturday.

‘If the boat goes down we’ll all be holding hands together!’ Rove McManus talks his new pilot Bring Back… Saturday Night and admits he has no qualms about it being filmed LIVE

‘Normally for a pilot process you make it, a bunch of executives will sit in a board room somewhere and decide if it lives or dies,’ Rove told the publication.

‘But with this thing if the boat goes down we’ll all be holding hands together!’

The new show is a variety show, and will feature guests including Delta Goodrem and Conrad Sewell.

Rove will not be sitting at a desk like his old show.

He said that he hopes to draw in the Saturday night audience – who he describes as the younger generation who are heading out that evening late at night so can watch the show and people who are ‘over 40 with kids’ relaxing at home.

‘The idea that I’ve been pushing so hard for so long is that people want a show like this,’ he said, comparing it to the likes of Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

Rove knows a thing or two about television, with his company, Roving Enterprises producing his old show Rove and The Project.

However his foray into radio hasn’t been as successful.

His show on Southern Cross Austereo with Sam Frost was axed last year after suffering dismal ratings.

Sam and Rove were replaced by Em Rusciano and Harley Breen after they were axed from the 2Day FM.

The pair’s lackluster chemistry saw their show repeatedly falling behind rivals like Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM, the star team they replaced.

Rove and Sam failed to build an audience following their debut on 2DAY FM in November 2015.

And getting the duo on board was a costly exercise for Austereo, with Rove’s contract alone apparently being a hefty $3.7 million per year.
