Roxy Jacenko’s poo jogger escapes justice as police close their investigation into mystery woman

The investigation into the mystery poo jogger who took repeated early morning toilet breaks outside the office of PR maven Roxy Jacenko is over.

All available avenues of inquiry have been exhausted in the search for the woman whose unsavoury running habits transfixed Sydney and made headlines across the world.

Despite Jacenko’s appeals for help from the public, and the best efforts of the New South Wales Police Force, the identity of the notorious ‘Paddington Pooper’ remains unknown.

While police would welcome any fresh information, the case is effectively closed.

‘Surry Hills Police Area Command has conducted an investigation into this matter,’ a New South Wales Police Force spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.

‘At this stage no person of interest has been identified.’

‘Additionally we are not aware of any further incidents occurring since the matter was reported to the NSWPF on Monday 14 October 2019.’

The poo jogger saga began that evening when Jacenko posted three short clips of gross CCTV footage to her Instagram account.

The clips featured a blonde woman wearing gym gear defecating outside Jacenko’s Sweaty Betty office on Watson Street, Paddington, twice in the previous week.

The jogger was shown pulling up between parked cars, pealing down her pants and relieving herself on the roadway, then using toilet paper she had brought for the job.

Jacenko asked her followers: ‘Do you know who this person is?’ Within 20 minutes the post had received more than 6,000 comments.

Two of the clips were taken about 6.30am on Thursday, October 10 and the third caught the woman in the act shortly after 6am on the day Jacenko released it.

Jacenko must have had high hopes for an early apprehension; cameras cover the streetscape outside Sweaty Betty’s offices following earlier graffiti attacks on the premises.

Jacenko told the hosts of The Project: 'I guess my whole thing for putting it on social media was more about... please just stop doing this, I don't want to walk in s**t'

Hundreds of Jacenko’s followers were disgusted by the jogger’s actions and offered to help with her inquiries before she took the post down.

‘I don’t know whether to laugh or shout in horror,’ one person wrote. Another added: ‘I think she needs to lay off the pre-workout and protein shakes.’

Some media dubbed the perpetrator the Paddington Pooper but she became better known more simply as the poo jogger.

Defecating in public is considered offensive conduct in New South Wales and carries a maximum penalty of three months’ imprisonment and/or a $660 fine.

Police duly announced they had begun an investigation and Jacenko launched a media campaign to flush out the culprit.

On Tuesday morning she told KIIS FM breakfast hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson: ‘I haven’t slept a wink. I’ve been on detective Roxy duties.’

Jacenko told the pair she had removed the incriminating CCTV footage because too many of her 249,000 Instagram followers were speculating on who the woman was.

‘Well, the only reason I took the videos down is because everyone kept saying it’s Jackie O and I thought, “Oh, good grief, I better take it down for her”,’ she said.

Henderson was quickly eliminated from inquiries. The CCTV videos had all been time -stamped while she was at work almost 20km away at her North Ryde studio.

Jacenko was not going to deterred by losing Henderson as a suspect and believed she knew the real motive behind the crime.

‘This isn’t a person with irritable bowel syndrome, this is a person who’s getting off on it,’ she said.

Jacenko had even done her own research into the psychology of why someone would publicly defecate in broad daylight.

‘When I Googled it, I was shocked how around the world this is a thing.’

During the investigation into the identity of the poo jogger Jacenko promoted Mutamucil fibre supplement on Instagram. 'Today¿s Handy Hint for the Home is dedicated to our Paddington Poopinator and let me tell you, this product is one that no bathroom should go without'

Jackenko then suggested other more socially acceptable activities the woman could indulge in. ‘Take up swimming or something. Why do you need to s**t in the street?’

The publicist announced she had already received several promising tips about the poo jogger’s identity.

She was confident the offender was not a disgruntled former employee as none of her ex-staffers resembled the woman in the video.

‘There’s quite a few people who have direct messaged, but that’s all I’ll say,’ she said.

‘I don’t want to embarrass the girl, I just want to know who it is and I want it to stop, as do all of the neighbours on the street.’

That same day Jacenko told Daily Mail Australia she had deleted the CCTV footage because she ‘actually didn’t want to look at it any longer, it’s simply revolting.’

‘I don’t believe that this is a medical condition, and if it is, there are many ways to ensure that this is managed,’ she said.

Within days of Jacenko appealing for help identifying the poo jogger the story had gone global, with media in Great Britain and New Zealand  widely reporting the hunt for the woman

‘This person is looking for a thrill which is why this is happening in full daylight, multiple times a week in the same spot.

‘We aren’t talking about a one off, this is a repeat offender.’

Jacenko revealed she had been finding faeces on Watson Street for three weeks.

‘It’s disgusting, it’s a lovely street lined with heritage terraces, kids playing and riding their bikes. Human faeces shouldn’t be on any street. Something needs to be done.’

A Watson Street resident, who wished to remain anonymous, also told AAP there had been four or five similar placements in the same spot over the previous three weeks.

‘One is fair enough if you’re caught short – but four or five I think is too much,’ the resident said.

‘The poos have come more consistently recently. But I hope the woman isn’t shamed as she could possibly have a medical condition.’

Jacenko assured the public on Tuesday the matter had been reported to the appropriate authorities: ‘We have been sent info which will be passed to the police.’

That night some of her staff appeared on A Current Affair when host Tracy Grimshaw suggested the mystery blonde should expect a knock on the door.

‘If you go out in public these days chances are you’ll be caught on CCTV,’ Grimshaw warned viewers at the start of the show.

‘The jogger who left an unwanted deposit outside PR queen Roxy Jacenko’s office should have thought about that because now everyone knows what she did and what she looks like.’

Grimshaw closed the segment by saying: ‘We’ve been told the alleged offender has deleted all her social media accounts to avoid her activewear being recognised.’

The same evening Jackenko fronted The Project to explain why she had originally posted the footage on social media.

‘I guess my whole thing for putting it on social media was more about… please just stop doing this, I don’t want to walk in s**t,’ she said.

‘I took it down because I also don’t want to put the person in a position where people are throwing around names on social media.’

Having hosed down speculation Henderson was the poo jogger, Jacenko said the woman also resembled The Project’s Melbourne co-host Carrie Bickmore.

THE POO JOGGER: AN UNTIMELY TIMELINE

October 10: A blonde woman wearing gym gear is filmed outside PR queen Roxy Jacenko’s Paddington office defecating in the street about 6am.

October 14: The woman does the same thing in the same spot shortly after 6.30am. Jacenko posts three clips of the woman on Instagram. She later takes the post down. The matter is reported to police.

October 15: Jacenko appears on the Kyle & Jackie O Show and The Project to say she will be playing detective and the poo jogger must be stopped.

October 16: Jackie ‘O’ Henderson assures listeners she is not the poo jogger.

October 17: The story has gone global, appearing in media in Great Britain, New Zealand and elsewhere.

October 21: The Shameless podcast reports a listener who knows the poo jogger says she is ‘not doing well.’

November 14:  Police reveal they have concluded their investigation.

‘Carrie, it’s lucky you don’t live in Sydney – being a blonde, thin and nimble it could have been you as well,’ Jacenko said.

The next morning Henderson addressed the matter again on the Kyle & Jackie O Show to clarify once and for all the poo jogger was not her.

‘I am not the poo jogger, okay?’ she said. ‘It’s not me, it’s some other girl. She’s way skinnier than me, by the way.’

By October 17 the poo jogger had gone global, with media in Great Britain, New Zealand and elsewhere widely reporting the hunt for the woman.

Local media were receiving tips about the woman’s identity and potential motives but she still had not been publicly identified.

On October 21 it was being reported the poo jogger was suffering in silence after being publicly shamed on social media.

On that day one of the hosts of the Shameless podcast said a listener had told them: ‘I actually know this woman and she’s not doing well.’

‘There is so much more back story to this footage that you cannot communicate on social media.

‘And if people knew what was going on in this woman’s life they would not be behaving in this way.’

On October 23 police were still hard at work. ‘No charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing,’ a police spokeswoman said at the time.

Wednesday’s news that the investigation is now over means whatever drove the woman to foul the streets outside Jacenko’s office may have to remain a mystery.

Police said any information about the poo jogger could still be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
