Royal fans criticise Meghan Markle’s ‘dreadful’ tights on Twitter

Meghan Markle was in full Duchess mode for her first official engagement as a royal yesterday, pairing her demure Goat dress with a pair of nude tights, just like the Duchess of Cambridge.

However, royal watchers on Twitter were not impressed, arguing that the sheer hosiery did not match Meghan’s skin colour with one saying her tights looked ‘dreadful’.

‘If you could find both Meghan and I tights in the correct shade, that would end a 30 year search for me,’ one said. ‘Or perhaps implore a designer to remember us biracial ladies’.

‘Why can’t her stylist actually find the right skin colour tights for her? Those tights are pale for her,’ another added.

Brands such as Pendeza, Own Brown and Bianca Miller, set up by a former Apprentice candidate, specialise in tights for darker skin tones but many high street brands ‘natural’ tights are firmly aimed at white women.

Royal fans have taken to Twitter to complain that Meghan’s nude tights did not match her skin tone, and called for manufacturers to offer more choice

Another commenter added: ‘Hopefully the tights will only appear on the most formal occasions and be the right colour.’

The new Duchess of Sussex stunned in a cream dress with sheer mesh sleeves by Goat, a brand loved by her sister-in-law Kate as she attended a garden party celebrating Prince Charles’ 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The former Suits star swapped the handbags she usually sports for the kind of pale pink clutch bag and teamed the ensemble with an elegant cream hat by royal favourite Philip Treacy.

She also finally ditched the messy bun she loves in favour of a chic updo without a hair out of place.

Even her accessories were more regal than the hipster trinkets she usually favours, opting for a slim diamond bracelet and £1,400 diamond earrings by Belgian designer Vanessa Tugendhaft.

But while the Duchess of Sussex’s ensemble appeared outwardly demure and elegant, she did add an edgier aspect – in the form of her nude shoes.

Although at first glance they appeared to be no different to the simple, and very flattering, style favored by Kate Middleton, and many other royals before her, upon closer inspection, the heels were revealed to have a rather funky clear PVC panel that was clearly visible as she and Harry walked through the grounds of the palace.

The $450 (£335) Tamara Mellon shoes – known as the ‘Siren’ – are described on the brand’s website as a ‘pump that means business’, the and are crafted from Nappa leather with a PVC embellishment.
