There are some 528 animals waiting for adoption in Care Centres and Petbarn Adoption Centres in NSW, while about 1,000 cats, dogs and other assorted critters will be lowered to $29 in a bid to clear Victorian shelters.

The adoption fee is also inclusive of desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, vet checks and up to date parasite control.

RSPCA debuted their ‘clear the shelters’ sale last year which saw a record 90 per cent of NSW animals successfully re-homed.

‘It was really special for the staff, a lot of the staff were quite emotional seeing all these dogs, some had been in care for 300 plus days, so that was really beautiful to see,’ RSPCA NSW spokeswoman Stefania Kubowicz told The Daily Telegraph.

‘We also did some pretty in-depth follow-ups around the six month period just to make sure there weren’t any negative outcomes to lowering the adoption price and we found it was exactly on par with normal adoptions.’

It is not only puppies and kittens who are looking for a permanent home in the RSPCA shelters.

Guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, a Shetland pony named Marigold, pigs and ducks are also available for adoption over the weekend.

There are also many older animals looking for a new family to spend their ‘senior years’ with.
