Rumoured Today replacement host Brenton Ragless misses Karl Stefanovic at Sydney Airport by MINUTES

Karl Stefanovic was booted off the Today show on Wednesday, with rumours rife that Brenton Ragless could replace him as co-host of the show.

And on Friday, in what could have been an awkward encounter, Brenton, 42, missed Karl by just minutes at Sydney Airport.

Grinning widely as he made his way through the airport with his wife of eight years, Hayley, and their two young sons, Edan and James, Brenton appeared oblivious to the fact Karl had made the exact same walk just minutes earlier.

Brenton -who has been filling in for Karl, 44, on the Today show during his absence – has all but been confirmed to take over permanently from the embattled TV host.

While an official announcement is yet to be made on Karl’s replacement, persistent rumours suggest Brenton has been handed the role.

His demeanour while at the airport preparing for an outbound flight certainly suggested he was in possession of some happy news, with the Adelaide newsreader unable to wipe the smile off his face.

With his baby strapped to his front, Brenton appeared to have been in high spirits, as he pulled a small suitcase behind him and carried a blue bag in one hand.

The TV star was dressed casually in jeans and a short-sleeve print shirt.

Only minutes earlier, Karl was seen arriving back in Sydney on the back of his honeymoon in the US following his lavish Mexican wedding earlier this month.

Despite it being announced that he wouldn’t be returning to the Today show after 14 years, the beleaguered TV host did his best to put on a brave face for the waiting cameras.

Accompanied by his new wife, Jasmine Yarbrough, 34, Karl attempted to appear upbeat as he pushed a trolley loaded up with suitcases through the airport terminal.

In a report published earlier this month, The Australian described Brenton as ‘the anti-Karl.’

And it appears Brenton has been settling in nicely in the role during Karl’s absence.

‘It is a bit more light and shade than the news, and it allows a bit more of the old tour guide Brenton Ragless to come out,’ Brenton told The Australian.

‘I love what I do in Adelaide with the news, but it’s nice to come and work with a different format. It’s an exposure to a world I’ve never experienced in Adelaide.’
