Russian diplomat connected to FSB intelligence ‘found dead in Berlin’

Russian diplomat connected to FSB intelligence is found dead ‘after falling from upper window of Berlin embassy’

A Russian diplomat thought to have connections to the Kremlin’s FSB spy agency has been found dead outside the country’s embassy in Berlin.

The 35-year-old, who served as the second secretary of the embassy since 2019, was found lifeless outside the building on October 19 around 7.20am by guards, with news of his death first published today.

Medics were rushed to the scene but were unable to revive the man. He is believed to have fallen from the top floor of the building in what the embassy described today as a ‘tragic accident’.

But no official cause of death has been established because the embassy refused an autopsy. Because the man was a diplomat on embassy grounds, the public prosecutor has no authority to carry out an investigation.

The diplomat’s body has since been returned to Russia, according to Der Spiegel which was first to report the news.

Germany’s foreign ministry has also confirmed the death, but said it would not comment further due to ‘privacy reasons’.
