Ruth Langsford breaks down in tears as she reveals fears her dog will pass away soon

Ruth Langsford broke down in tears during Tuesday’s Loose Women while confessing she fears her beloved rescue dog Maggie will pass away soon.

The presenter, 63, couldn’t contain her emotions as the panel discussed a storyline on Coronation Street which saw Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) put her dog Evelyn to sleep due to an illness.

After a clip was played on the daytime show, Ruth admitted her own pooch Maggie, 13, is nearing the end of her life and looking a ‘bit grey’.

She bawled, ‘I cant bear it. I’m a massive Corrie fan… oh god,’ while a less considerate Coleen Nolan said, ‘It’s not even your dog, its acting!’

Brushing off the comment, Ruth continued, ‘I was watching it and actually Maureen has written today saying she didn’t even need a tear stick from the make-up artist and she said, “Absolutely not,” as she had to have her own dog Diva put down.

‘I can’t see through the tears,’ she confessed. ‘It brought back the memories of her having to make that decision.’

As a photo of her pet was shown on-screen, Ruth wept, ‘My little Maggie’s probably about 13, look at her there. She’s getting a bit grey.’

Her co-stars rushed to her side and agreed to change the topic of discussion before it all got too much for her.

The TV personality and her husband Eamonn Holmes adopted Maggie in 2011.

The couple star fell in love with her at a celebration for the tenth anniversary of the Uxbridge Dogs Trust Centre.

Back in 2017, animal lovers have criticised the then-Strictly star after she shared a video of herself dancing with her dog.

She had shared a clip of herself dancing with her rescue dog on Twitter, joking that her pet had ‘more poise and grace than me’.

The This Morning presenter had dancing shoes on and was propping Maggie up on her hind legs as they moved to the Strictly theme song.

Awkward! She bawled, 'I cant bear it. I'm a massive Corrie fan... oh god,' while a less considerate Coleen Nolan said, 'It's not even your dog, its acting!'

Most of Ruth’s followers seemed to love the clip – but others said she was at risk of injuring her pet.

One viewer pleaded with Ruth to put the dog down, insisting that having the pooch stand on her hind legs ‘put pressure on her hips and spine’.

With just weeks to go to Strictly 2017, Ruth filmed herself breaking her dancing shoes in and rehearsing in what looked like her kitchen.

Keeping her face mostly out of shot, Ruth could just be seen wearing black trousers and heels with a pair of socks underneath.

Maggie, a Collie cross who Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes adopted in 2011, was acting as Ruth’s dancing partner.

Ruth held the pooch up by the paws as she walked her around a tiled floor, with the dog staring blankly at her owner.

Twitter users have said Maggie was clearly not enjoying the dancing, with some even suggesting that it is dangerous for the dog.

One tweeted: ‘Noooo please put her down. This puts way too much pressure on her hips and spine.’

‘Because that’s not hurting the dog’s back legs AT ALL,’ another posted.

A third said: ‘Sorry Ruth but don’t think Maggie is impressed.’

‘Or how about not pull your dog about? Even they don’t seem bothered it’s not very nice,’ another ranted.

A fifth wrote: ‘Please don’t do that to lovely Maggie.’

‘Dogs are not designed to dance! This is not good for her joints. She’s going along with it to please you.Stop being ridiculous,’ another ranted.

Another said: ‘Please don’t do this to your furbaby Ruth.’

Representatives for Ruth declined to comment at the time.
