Ryan Howsam’s Staysure Group snaps up rival as travel cover booms

Tycoon behind Britain’s biggest travel insurer predicting boom in sales of holiday cover after snapping up rival

The tycoon behind Britain’s biggest travel insurer is predicting a boom in sales of holiday cover after snapping up a smaller rival.

Ryan Howsam’s Staysure Group has bought Rock Insurance – which owns insurefor.com and sells policies on behalf of firms including Jet2, On the Beach and Tesco Bank – for an undisclosed figure in the tens of millions of pounds.

Recovery: The end of Covid curbs is a boost for holiday insurance firms

The entrepreneur said he was ‘doubling down’ on the travel insurance industry, which he expects to bounce back strongly as Covid curbs are lifted and holidaymakers seek cover against falling ill abroad or having to cut short their trips.

Howsam said: ‘Customers now feel that it is more necessary to have travel insurance. We have seen across the industry that the numbers of people using travel insurance have almost doubled on pre-Covid levels and that will continue.’

Online sales rocketed 60 per cent last week after the Government announced that from July 19 double-jabbed travellers to amber list countries would not have to quarantine on their return.

The Gibraltar-based group’s revenues, which have taken a hit from the pandemic, are likely to top £200million next year.
