Ryan Reynolds will be returning to straight-ahead comedy for his upcoming Netflix film Upstate.

The 43-year-old Deadpool star will co-write the project with John August, with whom he previously worked with on his 2007 thriller The Nines, Deadline reported.

Most recently, the actor led the Michael Bay-directed action extravaganza 6 Underground for the streaming giant.

So far there are not any details on the film’s plot, which is being closely guarded.

In addition to writing Upstate together, both Reynolds and August will produce it, with the actor representing his Maximum Effort production company.

The two last collaborated on The Nines, an experimental science fiction thriller that starred Reynolds in three different roles.

The mind-bending film was directed and written by August and received mostly positive reviews from critics, though it was a major box office bomb.

More recently, August wrote the screenplay for Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin, and he wrote the book for the musical adaptation of Big Fish, which eventually transferred to Broadway.

He also wrote the upcoming Grease prequel Summer Lovin’, as well as the YA novel series Arlo Finch.

Ryan has also been busy recently with film projects, and in November he will appear in another Netflix project, Red Notice, with Dwayne Johnson and Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot.

The actor stars as the world’s greatest con-man, while Gadot plays the most successful art thief in the world. Johnson plays an INTERPOL agent assigned to track the two down.

The Life star will also appear in the upcoming action–comedies Free Guy and the sequel The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife.

Last week, Ryan celebrated the sale of his Aviation Gin brand to Diageo for $610 million by sending out a hilarious out-of-office email in which he apologized to everyone from his mother and his wife Blake Lively to George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson and Betty White.

The actor and pitch man wrote that he hadn’t understood what an ‘earn-out’ was after he made the sale, which means that he only gets a portion of the sale upfront and the rest will only be doled out if the product sells well over the next decade.

He joked that he’d told everyone listed in the email ‘to go f**k themselves’ after assuming he struck it rich.
