SAG Awards 2019 worst-dressed stars revealed

The red carpet at the 25th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was filled with style highs – and unfortunately a fair few fashion lows.

Some of the industry’s brightest stars turned out for the award ceremony on January 27, in many cases putting their chicest foot forward for the red carpet, and in others, serving up some serious style eyesores.

From Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom’s drab ‘greige’ gown and Fiona Xue’s ridiculous rainbow dress to the bafflingly large bow on the back of Alison Brie’s ensemble, there were no shortage of sartorial nightmares at the glittering event.

Ready for take off: Alison Brie's dress featured an enormous bow on the back that made it look as though she was wearing a pair of bat wings. To make matters worse, the bow was covered in tacky crystal embellishments

A rare flop: The normally-stylish Lupita Nyong'o missed the mark on Sunday evening, wearing a see-through beaded skirt with a rather severe-looking jacket

Fashion flop: The color of Rumer Willis's gown looked dazzling on her, but the gown totally swamped her frame in every way, from the silhouette to the length

GLOW star Alison, 36, normally dazzles on the red carpet, however on this occasion, she wore what might have been a rather chic black gown if it weren’t for the enormous bow attached to the back of it, which gave the impression that she had suddenly sprouted a pair of bat wings.

To make matters even worse, when she turned around, she revealed that the bow was covered in a tacky crystal embellishments.

Another less-than brilliant look came from the beautiful Lupita Nyong’o, 35, who made a rare style misstep at this year’s SAG Awards, where she wore a rather odd see-through beaded skirt that she then paired with a severe cold-shoulder blazer.

Worn separately, each piece might have made a rather stylish impression, but when combined, the overall effect was less than impressive.

Speaking of see-through, The Handmaid’s Tale star Madeline Brewer, 26, wore what looked every so slightly like lacy lingerie on the red carpet, modeling a red dress that was completely see-through, and left a lot of leg on display for the cameras.

Another rather d-red-ful gown on the carpet was Rumer Willis’s dress, which completely swamped the 30-year-old’s frame, both in terms of the fit and the length.

Pink was also an unlucky color for a fair few stars on the red carpet at the SAGs, with both singer Kate Nash, 31, and actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste, 31, opting for less-than stellar styles in that shade.

Too much: Singer Kate Nash wore an incredibly garish neon pink dress that had some wild beaded and heart-shaped embellishments on it that just added to the over-the-top effect

Sicky sweet: The Good Place star Kirby Howell-Baptiste wore a very pink gown that was rather too saccharine - particularly when paired with a very girlish hair bow that may well have been ripped straight off a birthday gift

Co-stars: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom chose a less-than-flattering color for her look, and the drab grey-beige dress also appeared to be in desperate need of a steam. Meanwhile her one-time co-star Kimmy Gatewood’s gown was ethereal and beautiful from the waist down, but the shirt-style top ruined the look entirely

Color catastrophe: Crazy Rich Asians actress Fiona Xie's dress had far too much going on, from the rainbow fabric and the flowing tulle skirt to the tacky-looking floral embellishment on her chest that looked like it had been glued on at home

D-red-ful: GLOW star Gayle Rankin's dress had a beautiful neckline that accentuated her shoulders, however the big silver bow detail gave it an incredibly tacky feel - as did the rocking horse handbag

Kate’s neon gown was actually painful to look at because of its brightness, with some very cheap-looking bead and heart-shaped embellishments only serving to make the ensemble look all the more ridiculous.

Kirby meanwhile opted for a saccharine pale pink gown that was not unlike a ball of candy floss; she then added a pink ribbon to her hair, placing it right on top of her head in full view, making it look as though she had plucked the accessory from a gift and added it to her look shortly before arriving at the ceremony.

At the other end of the scale, Rachel Bloom, star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and her friend Kimmy Gatewood, star of GLOW, chose rather dreary and drab gowns that did little to impress on the carpet.

31-year-old Rachel’s dress was an incredibly unflattering grey-beige color, that actually clashed with the more peach-toned beige of Kimmy’s gold-embellished gown, which would have been lovely, had it not been for the shirt-style top half, which completely ruined the otherwise-ethereal look.

Crazy Rich Asians star Fiona Xie, 37, clearly struggled to pick a specific color to wear to the award show – so instead she opted for all of them, wearing a very over-the-top rainbow design, that was garish enough on its own, but was made all the more painful to the eyes thanks to the glittering 3-D flowers that covered her chest.

As far as silhouettes, the top half of GLOW star Gayle Rankin’s red dress was lovely, and helped to accentuate the 29-year-old’s shoulders. However the gown looked as though it was several inches too long, and also featured a very cheap-looking silver bow print on the front, which did little to help the overall look.

Gayle then added a rather tacky-looking rocking horse-shaped purse.

Tacky: Rhea Seehorn, who is nominated as part of the cast of Better Call Saul, wore what could have been a chic black jumpsuit - were it not for the awful colored bands that covered the top half of it, and gave it an incredibly tacky feel

Trim it back! Actress Cara Santana would have looked absolutely flawless in the flattering silhouette of her dress - but sadly the ridiculous extra layers of material completely distracted from the perfectly-fitted design

Moody: Both Barry star Sarah Goldberg (left) and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Lucy Boynton (right) both looked as though they were preparing for Halloween in their gothic-inspired ensembles
