Dramatic footage has emerged of a brazen smash-and-grab jewellery raid by armed robbers dressed in hazmat suits right front of terrified suburban shoppers.

Three thieves smashed open glass display cabinets at Salera’s in Melbourne’s Brimbank Shopping Centre and stole what they could before sprinting through the mall on Thursday morning.

Victorian police announced its ‘gang squad’ are now looking for three men ‘of African appearance’ and a stolen a white VW Golf sedan, which the men used as a getaway car.

The thieves stole expensive items worth thousands of dollars although the exact value of the goods they took is not yet known. 

Videos posted to social media shows horrified bystanders at the Deer Park shopping centre watching on during the robbery.

While nobody was physically harmed during the robbery, a Salera’s shop assistant appeared distressed in one of the videos posted online and shoppers can be heard shouting and screaming.

The thieves can be seen striking and breaking glass cabinets open with sledgehammers and crow bars.

At one point a person filming the chaos unfold ducks down out of view when one masked robber look directly at them. 

‘It’s believed three offenders arrived in a stolen vehicle at the carpark on the eastern side of the Station Road shopping centre about 10.40am,’ a police statement said.

‘The males entered the shopping centre armed with sledgehammers and crow bars.

‘They walked into a jewellery store, smashing numerous cabinets, stealing a large amount of jewellery.’

Police said the offenders ran back to their stolen car and travelled south on Neale Road after the robbery.

‘The vehicle is described as a white VW Golf sedan with registration 1KF3EA,’ police said.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident or dash cam footage to contact police immediately.
