Salim Mehajer offers strangers ‘joy ride’ day before crash

Salim Mehajer offered strangers an opportunity to win a ‘joy ride’ in his Rolls-Royce Wraith a day before he crashed his Mercedes on the way to court.

The ex-deputy mayor of Auburn council promised an exclusive drive in the luxury vehicle to whoever could most accurately caption a picture of him driving it.

In the photo uploaded to Instagram on October 15, Mr Mehajer and an associate drove at night with the car’s in-built ‘star lights’ illuminated.

‘Who can caption this? If you name a caption this picture; and I end up using it, you’ll be chosen to come for a ride with me “it” – my Rolls Royce Wraith,’ he wrote.

Followers eager to rub shoulders with the controversial businessman posted their suggestions in the comment section; each offering a different ‘starlight’ metaphor.

But none of the captions seemed to catch Mr Mehajer’s eye, with a winner yet to be announced nearly a week on from his original post.

He assured followers on Saturday, six days later, that he was still mulling over his options and had full intentions of staying true to his offer.

Alongside a black and white photo of himself smiling while sitting on a couch, Mr Mehajer says he ‘hasn’t forgotten’ about selecting a winner.

‘I haven’t forgotten about those that made effort to to “caption the previous image”…… I’m still thinking it though. God Bless you all,’ he wrote.

The bizarre competition comes after the 31-year-old was involved in a series of car accidents in recent months.

On Monday, after leaving home to travel to one of the four court dates he had scheduled this week, he was involved in a car crash which sent him to Westmead Hospital.

Images show the disgraced businessman wearing a neck brace and lying on a stretcher as he was loaded on to an ambulance.

The crash, which took place on Delhi Street in Lidcombe, saw him trapped inside his Mercedes for 20 minutes, before he was taken to hospital with neck injuries.

A Landcruiser allegedly linked to Mejaher ran into another Landcruiser at an intersection, with the second car allegedly running a red light.

In a second crash, last December, a Mercedes reported to be linked to the businessman was t-boned at an intersection.
