A South Australian bikie found guilty of murdering an acquaintance with a two kilogram spanner has been jailed for at least 23 years.

Jesse Ray Penhall was charged over the death of David Norris, 39, at a trucking yard at Salisbury, north of Adelaide, in September 2017.

Justice Malcolm Blue on Tuesday handed him a head sentence of life behind bars, while a second man, Hans Thaller, was given a seven-month sentence for impeding the police investigation.

Thaller, who admitted washing the spanner used to kill Me Norris, will be allowed to serve his sentence on home detention.

Jurors in Penhall’s trial were told Mr Norris was found in a pool of blood on the floor of his workshop and had suffered at least six blows to the head.

It was the second time Penhall had been charged with murder after he and another man were in 2004 found not guilty of murdering a bikie by shooting him outside a hotel in Wallaroo, on the Yorke Peninsula.

He was also the victim of a 2008 ambush, when he was shot 14 times as he delivered a load of concrete mesh at Paskeville, another Yorke Peninsula town.

Penhall was left with severe injuries and had to have several fingers reattached following the incident.
