Salon owner uses bollard to smash thieves’ getaway car in Melbourne

A salon owner has fought back against thieves who broke into his store, using a bollard to chase them before smashing the back of their getaway car.  

Sean Nevo, 33, lives above his salon in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, and he was stirred out of his sleep by thieves smashing the front of his shop about 4.45am on Thursday.

Mr Nevo told Nine News one of the thieves took a swing at him and there was a short scuffle before they fled the scene.

‘I quickly ran downstairs and I was confronted by one of the guys, one of the crooks,’ he said.

He then picked up a bollard and struck the back of their Mitsubishi station wagon.

‘They tried to reverse at me, I moved over and to the passenger side and smashed the side… and then they just drove off.’

The three men escaped with hair straighteners worth more than $1200, according to police.

Another hair salon in nearby Rowville was burgled an hour later. Hair straighteners were also stolen from the shop.

Police have arrested three men in relation to the two burglaries, aged 24, 28 and 38.

They are being interviewed by Victoria Police detectives.
