Salzburg chief Christoph Freund has this week publicly insisted that despite expecting bids in the future, nothing has been tabled so far.

‘So much nonsense is written in the last few weeks. What I’ve already read makes me laugh,’ Freund said, as report the Mirror.

Speculation in recent weeks has linked Serie A giants Juventus with Haaland, with figures in the region of £30-£50million being discussed.

It is United who appear most pressed to pursue the wonderkid however, with an alarming lack of goals at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is yet to purchase a striker on the transfer market, despite allowing both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave for Inter Milan in the summer.

Haaland – the son of former Leeds and Manchester City player Alf-Inge – was born in Yorkshire and harbours ambitions to follow in his father’s footsteps and play in the Premier League.

Haaland told reporters recently in Salzburg: ‘I want to be the best. I have dreamed of playing for the best clubs in the world my whole life, and I especially like English football.’

United may hold the advantage in the race for Haaland signature, as the player previously worked with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously at Molde. The now United manager was responsible for handing the striker his debut.

Haaland told TV2: ‘He has had a huge impact on my life, both as a person and as a trainer.

‘He won the Champions League and was an incredibly good player. He has taught me a lot.’
