Sam Armytage hits back at criticism of her “I’m beautiful” column

Earlier this month, she penned a now-heavily criticised column for Stellar Magazine, titled: ‘Don’t attack me for being beautiful.’

And now, Samantha Armytage, 41, has fired back at critics who labelled her self-indulgent, shallow, ‘over the hill’ and ‘hideously ugly’.

Tackling the issue again in Sunday’s Stellar column, Sam slammed trolls as ‘humourless’, suggesting: ‘One more time for the dummies — that was a JOKE!”

‘One more time for the dummies – that was a JOKE!’ Sunrise host Samantha Armytage hits back at critics who called her ‘over the hill’ and ‘hideously ugly’ after penning infamous ‘don’t attack me for being beautiful’ column

‘As with most of what I say in life, my tongue was firmly in my cheek,’ the veteran journalist first outlined to readers about her previous column.

‘The outrage commentators also kindly (JOKE) shared with me what the burning fires of hell (aka the online “comments” section for articles) were spewing up from the anonymous underworld of those vile and ugly haters. (Not a JOKE.) I was “over the hill”, should “work on radio” and, my favourite, “not all that”… Well, guess what, idiot? I AM all that. (Not a JOKE.)’

Appearing perplexed by the upset, Sam argued that critics had lost their ability to laugh or take a joke.

She then more poignantly added she had broken the ‘golden rule’ for women, for choosing to accept her own attractiveness.

‘Entire newspaper pages were dedicated to my breaking of the golden rule for women: to NEVER admit you’re beautiful,’ she wrote.

In the body of the column, Sam labelled what she considered a joke with ‘(JOKE)’, before defending the dry wit she used in the offending piece of writing.

'I've always prided myself on my self-deprecating humour': In the column, Sam scolded her detractors for not being able to have a laugh. She doubled down on her "you'd be wrong" line

‘I’ve always prided myself on my self-deprecating humour’: In the column, Sam scolded her detractors for not being able to have a laugh. She doubled down on her ‘you’d be wrong’ line

She claimed to have always prided herself on her self-deprecating humour, adding that it was her mother who encouraged her to write the reply.

She then replicated her ‘I’m beautiful’ line: ‘If you don’t think I’m funny, you’re entitled to your opinion…But you’d be wrong.’

Earlier this month, Sam wrote in her monthly column that women should accept flaws more readily while saying her beauty was the result of long hours in the make-up chair.

‘Don’t attack me for being beautiful; I have a team of hair and make-up PROFESSIONALS getting up at the crack of sparrows each day to make me look good,’ she said.

Using the analogy of buying discounted, damaged fruit at the supermarket, Samantha said she hoped women ‘truly embraced our inner bumpy lemon skin’.

Later in the column, she said that she looked at Victoria’s Secret Angels with ‘utter disbelief and envy,’ and added that she cried after getting braces at age 13.

At the tender age, the popular presenter candidly admitted she became emotional at the thought that no boy would look at her.

The column gained the ire of readers, with a number of them attacking Sam for being ‘full of herself,’ while another wrote: ‘sounds self indulgent and [like she’s] an over thinker’
