Sunrise host Sam Armytage reveals whether she will change her surname after marrying businessman fiancé Richard Lavender

Sunrise host Sam Armytage has hinted she could go down the non-traditional route of keeping her surname after marrying her fiancé, Richard Lavender.

The TV presenter, 44, was asked about changing her surname to Lavender while attending the Everest Carnival Fashion Lunch over the weekend.

She told The Daily Telegraph it was an ‘interesting thought’ and didn’t rule out any possibilities – but her uncertain answer suggests she may simply keep Armytage out of convenience.

Will she change her name? Sunrise host Sam Armytage has hinted she could go down the non-traditional route of keeping her surname after marrying her fiancé, Richard Lavender

While attending the event on Saturday, Richard said he knew that Sam was ‘the one’ on the day he met her.

‘It was immediate. This sounds really stupid but I thought “Gee whiz, I like that girl” from the moment I first saw her,’ he said.

‘I had no idea what she did or anything like that, which was probably a plus. You know when you meet someone and you feel comfortable.’

Sam later praised Richard on Instagram after he survived his first ‘media wall’, saying he ‘handled it like a pro’.

She announced her engagement to the millionaire equestrian businessman in June.

Last month, the loved-up pair revealed their wedding plans had to be put ‘on hold’ due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

She told The Daily Telegraph the wedding would most likely take place in 2021.

‘Because we want to have a party with more than 20 people, we have sort of put it on hold,’ she said.

‘We will get married but put the planning on hold because there is no point until we can actually make a proper plan in booking anything so no plans yet but we will get there.’
