Sam Burgess’ NRL $3.6million contract to be honoured by South Sydney as the club offers a deal that will keep him at the Rabbitohs for 10 YEARS

Retired South Sydney rugby league star Sam Burgess is set to be employed in a highly paid administration role by the NRL club.

The English forward – who had to give the game away because of a shoulder injury – will earn as much as $360,000 a season over 10 years in the job, The Daily Telegraph reported.

That would take him up to the amount he was set to receive as a contracted player over the next three years. He is still on a $3.6 million three-year contract with the club.

Souths are reportedly waiting on their request to medically retire Burgess from the game before signing off on a deal for the 30-year-old.

That could happen as soon as the end of the week.

The role reportedly involves football administration, recruitment and working with sponsors.

Burgess said he could not yet discuss the contract negotiations when contacted on Tuesday.   

‘There’s nothing official to say just yet,’ he told the publication.

‘We are working through the deal at the moment and I am excited at the prospect of developing further skills off the field.’ 

Burgess and his wife Phoebe, who married in December 2015, separated in October for the second time.

This week he was been linked to American waitress Oak Schuetz who claimed the pair had a whirlwind four-day romance. 

Burgess denied the claims.
