Sam Newman recently underwent surgery to repair his broken ankle.

And on Wednesday, the former host of the Footy Show shared confronting X-ray photos to Instagram following his surgery.

The image showed a metal bar and screws which had been attached to the 75-year-old’s bone.

Newman also revealed he was finally able to walk again following the surgery.

‘Surgeon William Edwards did this. Fused a broken ankle. Couldn’t have done it better myself. Can walk again – three months ahead of all estimates,’ he wrote. 

Newman’s post comes after he opened up about the pain of finding his wife Amanda Brown dead in their home and being without her in a raw and emotional interview.

Newman described how he tried in vain to revive his wife after discovering her lying on the floor unresponsive in their apartment in Melbourne in May.

The couple were an item for 20 years before tying the knot in November last year.

‘I miss everything about it,’ he said in an interview with 7News.

On his podcast You Cannot Be Serious, the Geelong great revealed he was out getting fish and chips on the night of her death before quickly returning home.

He was anxious after his wife failed to answer any of his calls.

Newman entered his apartment and found his long-term partner dead on the floor.

He performed CPR on her for 20 minutes – even though he knew it was too late.
