Sam Quek gives birth: Question Of Sport star welcomes second child 12 months after birth of daughter Molly

Sam Quek has welcomed her second child with her husband Tom Mairs.

The Question Of Sport star, 33, gave birth to her little one – whose name and gender she is yet to reveal – on Friday, just a day after she was seen on screen presenting BBC Morning Live.

She announced the news in an Instagram post that read: ‘We were 3… but now we’re 4 [heart] 11.3.22’.

Proud new parents: Sam Quek has welcomed her second child with husband Tom Mairs

Sam revealed that she was expecting her second child with husband Tom in October – seven months after they welcomed a baby girl named Molly. Their new arrival comes just two weeks after they celebrated their firstborn’s first birthday.

Sam shared the joyous news of her pregnancy with OK! magazine, admitting the news came as a shock.

The couple also admitted that part of their decision to expand their family quickly also came down to losing a baby last year as they were worried it would take longer to fall pregnant.

At the beginning of 2020, Sam and Tom discovered they were five weeks pregnant after a year of trying to conceive. But five weeks later Sam miscarried.

‘I didn’t want to speak to anyone. I had guilt and shame that it was my fault,’ Sam previously said of the devastating time.

The former England hockey player then revealed that she was pregnant again in November 2020 and welcomed daughter Molly in March.

She explained: ‘Molly took 18 months to conceive – or two years with a miscarriage inbetween.

‘With this one we didn’t expect it to happen as quick to be honest but we’re completely blessed that it did and any pregnancy is just one of the best things ever.’

On whether she was hoping for a girl or boy, Sam added: ‘As long as they’re healthy I could see myself with two daughters or a son and a daughter. I just think either way I’ll extremely happy because any baby is a blessing.’

Sam and Tom married at Chester Racecourse in 2018 after getting engaged in June 2017 when Tom proposed during a holiday in Tenerife.

Before turning her hand to TV, Sam was an English former field hockey player, playing as a defender for both the England and Great Britain teams.

She won gold as part of the British team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The couple also discussed the impact Sam’s pregnancy could have on her career prospects.

Last year, Sam and rugby star Ugo Monye were approached to take over from Matt Dawson and Phil Tuffnell as captains on Question Of Sport. Paddy McGuinness replaced Sue Barker as host.

Tom assured: ‘Question Of Sport couldn’t have been more supportive. Timing-wise, it could work really well if Sam is part of the next series as the baby would arrive before filming starts.’
