Samsung will unveil two new foldable Galaxy phones at an ‘Unpacked’ event on August 10, rumours suggest.

Philadelphia-based leaker Evan Blass has posted a Samsung promo image, which shows a blurred outline of a new foldable phone and the text ‘Aug 10.2022’.

The phone is suspected to be the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the fourth generation of phones with a flexible glass screen that lets it fold down a central horizontal hinge.

In the promo image, the device appears to be a Bora Purple colour and is folded at a 90-degree angle, with bright light emanating from the screen.

Also at Unpacked, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Fold 4, which, like its predecessors, will likely have a vertical hinge and act as a 2-in-1 device.

When folded shut, the Galaxy Fold looks like a smartphone, but when unfolded it gives the user a big tablet-like screen, suited to watching films on the go.

Samsung’s family of foldable phones are known for their eye-watering price tags – some pushing past the £1,500-mark.

Blass posted the promo image to Twitter on Monday, although the image itself has since been removed from the tweet ‘in response to a report from the copyright holder’ – a good indicator that the image is genuine.

According to Blass, Samsung is likely to officially reveal full details about its August Unpacked event in just a few days.

The image corroborates information shared to Twitter last month by Arkansas-based leaker and YouTube host Jon Prosser.

Prosser said the two new foldable phones would launch on August 10, the same day pre-orders start, and would go on-sale on August 26.

Last week, Blass posted ‘official renders’ of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, showing it side-on while both folded and unfolded.

Blass said neither the fourth-generation Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip are expected to see ‘major design changes’ compared to their predecessors, which were announced in August last year and are both still on sale.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a main screen measuring 7.6 inches when unfolded and an exterior cover screen measuring 6.2 inches – and costs up to £1,699.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also the first ever foldable device from Samsung to come with an S Pen stylus – commonly found with the company’s Note range.

Meanwhile, the £1,000 Galaxy Z Flip 3 opens like a retro 90s phone thanks to a horizontal hinge through the middle of the screen.

It’s designed to emulate the classic ‘clamshell’ flip phones of the 2000s, including the Samsung S500 and T609.

Users can bend the device at a 90-degree angle for taking videos and pictures and enjoying video-chat hands-free.

Both the third-generation foldable phones are 5G compatible and have IPX8 water resistance.

Samsung’s original folding device – the Galaxy Fold – was years in the making from its initial idea and patent stages.

It was released in September 2019, following technical troubles that held up its worldwide launch, including reports of broken displays after only a few days of use.

The first generation Galaxy Z Flip was released in February 2020, although it was superseded six months later by a 5G-compatible version.

SAMSUNG SHOWCASES WILD FOLDABLE DEVICES AT CES 2022

Samsung debuted several new folding gadgets at CES 2022 in Las Vegas,  both smartphones and laptops that either have a S- or G-shape design.

The ‘S’ design features three panels the fold out to make a larger tablet-like device, while the ‘G’ folds inward on all sides, allowing you to store away the device without scratching the display.

During a presentation at CES, Samsung showcased the Flex Note that went from a 13-inch tablet to 17 inches when fully expanded, and the Flex Slidable smartphone with a display that extends to the side.

Although these devices are concepts, Samsung did launch a new smartphone at the consumer tech event – the Galaxy S21 FE.
