A wardrobe that DRY CLEANS your clothes: You can now buy a ‘smart’ closet that disinfects clothing between washes – and you’ll never need to iron again

  • Samsung on Friday launched a new wardrobe that dry cleans clothes for you
  • The AirDresser steams away 99 percent of viruses and bacteria between washes
  • It loosens creases and lifts dust and odours from inside and outside of clothes
  • It also eliminates the need for ironing but comes with a hefty price tag of $3,049
  • The machine is designed to blend seamlessly into your room or walk-in closet

Samsung Australia has launched a $3,049 wardrobe that disinfects, steams and dry cleans clothes, eliminating the need to ever iron again.

Steam and warm air released from jets inside the ‘AirDresser’ penetrate deep into fabrics to remove 99 percent of viruses and bacteria as well as dust and odours between washes.

The machine gently dries clothes at a low temperature, reducing the risk of shrinking and fabric damage which often occurs in traditional tumble dryers.

A ‘smart’ care system gently smooths wrinkles and creases, meaning clothes are ready to wear immediately after cleaning – no ironing required.

Built-in artificial intelligence even determines the perfect temperature to clean and steam clothes, leaving you nothing to do but hang your laundry inside.

The cleaning system also works safely on leather shoes and handbags and can be used to sanitise plastic toys.

The sleek free-standing machine is designed to blend seamlessly into your room or walk-in closet, and can be positioned anywhere because it works without being attached to plumbing.

The AirDresser is available to buy from Samsung Australia’s website for $3,049 or Harvey Norman at a discount of $2,999 for a limited time only.

The machine is approved by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice programme, which means its beneficial for people with asthma and allergies.

Samsung Australia’s head of consumer electronics Jeremy Senior said the AirDresser protects clothes but also the people who wear them.

‘We’re helping Australians to quickly and easily refresh and care for their clothes while also enjoying the peace of mind that comes with the elimination of dust and odours,’ he said in a statement.

‘People are more conscious of the spread of odours and germs than ever before, which is why AirDresser is so relevant to many Australians.’

The launch comes amid heightened awareness of personal hygiene as infectious disease experts urge the public to remain vigilant about household cleanliness to reduce the risk of COVID-19.

University of New South Wales virologist Doctor Sacha Stelzer-Braid in April told Daily Mail Australia that laundry and soft furnishings should be washed and tumble dried on a regular cycle – 56 degrees Celsius – to disintegrate all traces of the virus.

‘It’s been shown that washing clothes and bedding at 56°C kills the novel coronavirus specifically. It doesn’t need to be boiling, you don’t need to go overboard,’ she said.

56 degrees Celsius is the temperature at which COVID-19 breaks down, according to a recent study by the US National Library of Medicine.

World Economic Forum researchers have found coronavirus can live for up to 24 hours on soft, porous fabrics and as long as 72 hours on hard, non-porous materials.

This is because the mucus contained in contaminated respiratory droplets absorb into soft fabrics faster than they do on hard surfaces, meaning the virus dies on clothes and cushions sooner than on phone covers and door handles.

But even when droplets COVID-19 are present on clothes, a quick turn in the washing machine will eliminate any active infection.
