Samuel L. Jackson joins Boyd Holbrook in death row drama Last Meals … playing chef working in maximum security prison

Samuel L. Jackson is slated to play a chef who goes from cooking at the White House to a maximum security prison in the forthcoming drama Last Meals.

The Oscar-nominated actor, 74, will play the role of a chef named Walter who formerly worked at the White House before a scandal led to his reputation winding up in tatters, Deadline reported.

Years later, the chef is working at a maximum security facility, where one of his duties includes making the last meals for death row convicts.

The Pulp Fiction star is joined in the motion picture by actor Boyd Holbrook, who portrays the role of Reed, a convict who goes on a hunger strike.

Walter and Reed begin to bond, which gives Walter an insight into a person who’s ‘willing to forgo his last pleasurable experience in order to protest his innocence,’ according to a synopsis from producers.

According to the outlet, the script of the film, penned by Justin Piasecki, initially was well-received, but production on the film slowed due to the pandemic, and the movie has since been refashioned.

Piasecki’s script for the project was recently purchased by Amazon following a competitive auction.

Piasecki is among the producers on the motion picture, as well as Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman.

Filmmaker Andrew Levitas, whose other projects include Minimata and Lullaby, is slated to direct the motion picture.
