She explained of her motivation to film the documentary that ‘one of the reasons was that mother died of breast cancer when I was 10, and so I always feared it.’

‘When I got to 39 which was when my mother died, I thought “here we are” and when I got to 40 I thought “oh, that’s weird” and then I got to 50 and was diagnosed.’

‘So I’ve lived with this fear for such a long time and actually once I realised how the treatment works it’s not nearly as bad as the fear, and I thought well if I can talk about, a) it keeps me busy and b) if I can make it a bit less scary for other people and make them not be scared of going to the doctor, because the earlier the diagnosis the better the outcome.’

A clip from Sarah’s documentary was aired showing the star filming an episode of her new daytime TV show just 10 days after getting chemotherapy.

When asked how difficult was it to carry on working, Sarah was adamant that she was ‘really lucky. We made the daytime series which started today, so we made 20 daytime shows which was really brilliant because I was able to keep really busy, and do something that I love doing, meeting people.’

‘Some days were hard, but to be honest the team I work with are amazingly supportive, they’re totally brilliant.’

The new 20-part series follows people as they move from the city for a fresh start in the rural countryside.

Sarah’s documentary following her cancer journey, Sarah Beeny v Cancer will air on Channel 4 later this month.

Sarah Beeny’s New Country Lives airs on Channel 4 weekdays at 5pm
