Sarah-Jane’s shock surgery: The Block star, 30, undergoes double mastectomy following finale after discovering she has breast cancer gene
The Block star Sarah-Jane Wilson has undergone major surgery just weeks after the show’s disastrous finale.
The mother-of-one, 30, had a double mastectomy after discovering she carries the BRCA1 gene and has a much higher risk of developing breast cancer.
Wilson said the life-saving surgery was approved just one day prior to the November 5 auctions after being on a waiting list for five years.

‘It’s been a long time in the making – I’ve been on this list for five-plus years. Then, the day before The Block auction, they called me: “We’ve got a spot for you,”‘ she said in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
Sarah-Jane said she decided to have the procedure because her mother first developed breast cancer at the age of 36.
The reality star also spoke about her surgery on her personal Instagram page, explaining she had all of her breast tissue removed before getting implants.

She showed off her medical garments, including a compression bra with two bags under her arms to drain fluid from her breasts.
‘It is day five since my double mastectomy – I’ve got my compression bra on, which they ask you to wear afterwards,’ she explained.
‘I’ve had all my breast tissue removed, then I had implants put in straight away.’
‘I’ve got some bruising, but all is going pretty well to be honest. And I do have nipples, for people asking!’ she added. ‘They were able to save my nipples; not everybody’s nipples are salvageable.’
More to come.
