Sarah Palin congratulates Kamala Harris on being third woman ever on the presidential ticket

Sarah Palin, the second woman in U.S. history to be included on the presidential ticket, congratulated Sen. Kamala Harris on becoming the third – and then gave her some frank advice.

‘Out of the chute trust no one new,’ Palin wrote on Instagram Tuesday. ‘Fight mightily to keep your own team with you – they know you, know your voice, and most importantly are trustworthy.’

Palin also called campaign aides ‘yahoos’ and warned her against ‘handlers’ coming from the Biden campaign.

‘Don’t get muzzled,’ the former Alaska governor said. ‘Connect with media and voters in your own unique away. Some yahoos running campaigns will suffocate you with their own self-centered agenda so remember YOU were chosen for you YOU are.’

‘So stay connected with America as you smile and ignore deceptive “handlers” trying to change you,’ Palin added.

Palin was the surprise pick by Sen. John McCain in 2008 as he tried to add diversity to his ticket as he ran against then Sen. Barack Obama, who would go on to make history as the country’s first black president.

She was a little-known mayor-turned-governor, whose ‘maverick’ spirit enchanted the Arizona senator – known for being a ‘maverick’ himself – who had considered putting Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman on the ticket to make history as well.

Palin famously clashed with some of McCain’s aides, including Nicolle Wallace, who now hosts an MSNBC show.

Her laid-back ‘hockey mom’ facade crumbled after campaign financial filings showed more than $150,000 was spent on clothes for Palin and her family from stores including Saks Fifth Avenue.

She also made a number of missteps during news interviews, including with anchor Katie Couric, which made her easily ridiculed on ‘Saturday Night Live.’

Reports from the time say that Palin refused coaching prior to the interviews from campaign staff, dramatized in the HBO movie ‘Game Change,’ which centered around McCain’s choice of the Alaska governor for vice president.

In addition to her warnings Tuesday, Palin provided Harris – a sitting U.S. senator who ran for president earlier in the cycle – with some ‘fun terms’ she’d learn on the campaign trail.

An ‘OTR,’ Palin said was an ‘orchestrated campaign stop that’s meant to look un-orchestrated.’

These stops are called OTRs for off the record, as a candidate’s movements are not supposed to be reportable by press until the candidate arrives at the locale.

‘OTR’s get bizarre (try eating in front of vultures looking for the “gotcha” shot!) but my team made OTR’s the second most fun thing!’ Palin said.

Harris was no stranger to this as she campaigned for president a year ago at the Iowa State Fair, allowing photographers to capture her chowing down on pork chops, whch are served on a stick.

Palin then revealed that she believed ropelines are ‘thee MOST fun thing!’

A politician will go down a line shaking hands, which is called a ‘ropeline.’

‘The ropeline is often the only way to literally touch those whom you wish to serve, so be sincere in looking in their eyes, understanding why they’re there, never forgetting they represent the innumerable Americans putting their trust in you to serve for the right reasons,’ Palin said.

Harris, like Biden, will likely be constrained from touching any voter due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has completely changed campaigning for the White House since mid-March.

Biden has been extremely cautious when campaigning, only voyaging out of his Wilmington, Delaware home on a handful of occasions, always careful to wear a mask.

President Donald Trump has attempted to hold larger campaign events, though his first foray back on the campaign trail in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June ended with less-than-stellar audience attendance.

It has since attracted controversy after Herman Cain, a 2012 GOP presidential hopeful, attended the rally mask-less, tested positive for COVID-19 days later and died of the virus in late July.

Palin also advised Harris ‘don’t forget the women who came before you.’

Before Palin, the first woman on a presidential ticket was Geraldine Ferraro in 1984. She was the running mate of Democrat Walter Mondale. They lost badly to incumbent Republican President Ronald Reagan.

‘Have fun!’ Palin also said. ‘This IS the greatest country in the world and hopefully you’ll be blessed beyond belief, like I was, with meeting new people from all walks of life and see just how great it is!’

Palin also teased another post about her time on the presidential ticket ‘including one of the funniest things in my life, right before my debate with Sen. Joe Biden.’

‘Stay tuned!’ she wrote.

Biden is the Democrats’ presumptive nominee and his campaign announced the Harris pick via text message to supporters Tuesday afternoon.

The Democratic National Convention kicks off virtually next Monday.
