Sasha Mielczarek reveals secret battle with mental health

And The Bachelorette’s Sasha Mielczarek has opened up about the toll the breakup had on him, revealing his secret battle with mental health over the past six months.

‘I suffered in silence,’ the 31-year-old told news.com.au, also revealing he was yet to start dating again after Sam moved on with new beau Dave Bashford.

Sasha revealed he had gone through a ‘dark period’ over the past six months after splitting from Sam in December.

The high profile former couple had dated for 18 months after falling in love on the 2015 season of The Bachelorette. 

The construction manager, who has been lying low on the NSW South Coast following the break up, told News Corp he had struggled to get help for his mental health at first.

‘I’m a blokey-bloke … I suffered in silence and didn’t talk about it,’ Sasha confessed.

The former reality TV star was able to overcome his mental health struggle with the help of his friends and mum, with whom he shares a close bond.

 In a better place now, Sasha explained he was happy being single and focusing on himself rather than dating.

‘I haven’t even begun the process of looking to date again — I’m just concentrating on family and friends now,’ Sasha said. 

‘I think I’ll meet a girl at the pub just like any other normal guy.’

Since their split last year Sam has also opened up about her mental health struggle, revealing the toll their high profile relationship took. 

The reality TV sweetheart told the Herald Sun in April that the break up and criticism of her short-lived radio career led to her seeing a psychologist once a week for several months.

‘I reached breaking point last year. I was like oh my goodness I am really, really struggling with my mental health,’ Sam said.

‘The trolls and the criticism were relentless. I just thought I am a good person, I am a wonderful friend, I am a wonderful sister and I work hard and I am grounded, I don’t understand why people are being so horrible to me.’

 Since splitting from Sasha last year Sam has gone on to find love with longtime friend Dave Bashford, confirming their romance in July.
