SATC star Kristin Davis sparks plastic surgery rumors after appearing in trailer for HBO spinoff

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis has sparked a flurry of plastic surgery rumors after fans of the hit show called out her ‘unrecognizable’ appearance in a new trailer for HBO Max’s spinoff series And Just Like That.

The network sparked a frenzy of excitement when it released the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated Sex and the City spinoff on Friday. But the debut of the teaser debut also prompted a flurry of speculation about 56-year-old Davis’ looks – with many viewers questioning whether her altered appearance is the result of cosmetic work.

Davis, who plays Charlotte York in the series, first appeared on screens in the role when Sex and the City debuted in 1998; now, more than two decades later, she is returning to the role alongside co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon.

But while many viewers were quick to voice their excitement over the first look at the upcoming series, several couldn’t help but call out the actress’s ‘new face’, with some suggesting that it is the result of ‘awful plastic surgery’.

‘And just like that, Charlotte has a new face,’ one person wrote. Another added, ‘What did Charlotte do to her face?’

A third viewer tweeted, ‘I completely understand the pressure women are under to look a certain way, and will likely have plastic surgery myself if I have the resources. That said, Kristin Davis looks like she ingested Smylex.’

Smylex is a chemical from the Batman comics that ‘forces the human body to smile and/or laugh uncontrollably.’

‘Every time they show Kristin Davis’s face for #AndJustLikeThat, I wonder how much she paid for such awful plastic surgery. She was such a natural beauty before,’ someone else tweeted, with one of their followers responding, ‘It’s literally ALL I can see.’

The 56-year-old previously claimed during an interview with New Beauty in 2018 that she didn’t want to surgically alter the way she looked because she was ‘scared of needles, scared of complications and scared of doing something that looks bad and not being able to go back and fix it.’

The HBO star also opened up trying to change her body after becoming self conscious about the way she looks while chatting with AOL in 2018.

She said: 'I used to go to the gym six days a week, two hours a day. I worked hard. It was a struggle because that was not really my body, and I was killing myself trying to change it.' She is photographed as Charlotte in the upcoming spinoff series And Just Like That...

In 2018, Davis (pictured left in 2001 and right this month) admitted that she had struggled with insecurities in the past, revealing that she ‘killed herself’ trying to change her body

‘I used to go to the gym six days a week, two hours a day. I worked hard. It was a struggle because that was not really my body, and I was killing myself trying to change it,’ she said.

‘I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to say that [beauty standards] don’t concern me or that I don’t think about them, but on the other hand, I feel stronger in who I am and that my body is my body and a lot of people love my body.’

Kristin continued: ‘Maybe there are people who don’t, but that’s always going to be the case. Don’t even give it weight. It is what it is, and you’re never going to please everyone.

‘The truth is that it’s just part of our job. It’s a visual job, and it’s tough. You have to hear everyone else discuss it, in print, too.

‘Part of the reason that it’s hard to do is that you go in and play parts where you can’t avoid having to wear certain things in our jobs.

‘It’s been a stressful thing for me over time and hard to get enough self-worth where I can be like, “I’m just gonna look however I’m gonna look on screen.”‘

Back in July, Washington D.C.-based Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Michael Somenek told OK! Magazine that he thought the actress definitely had fillers put in.

‘Her cheeks appear to be overfilled creating a rather distorted appearance to her eyes and making her face look much wider than her traditionally slimmer face from the past,’ he told them.

‘Her lips have been injected which is why they have a somewhat stiff appearance when she is smiling. Alternatively she may have also gotten a lip lift to elevate her upper lip. Overall, it has created a rather disproportionate look to her face.’

The new Sex and the City show is going to follow favorite characters Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda – played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin, and Cynthia Nixon – as they ‘navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their thirties to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.’

The 10-part reboot will premiere on December 9, 2021. The first two episodes will hit the streaming platform on that day, with the rest of the episodes coming out every Thursday after that.

‘They say some things never change. But the truth is, life is full of surprises. And as your story unfolds, the city reinvents itself. And just like that, a new chapter begins,’ Sarah could be heard saying in the trailer.

Despite much of the original cast returning for the new show, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha, is not going to appear in the reboot, and many fans are not happy about it.

Earlier this year, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys responded to the backlash over Kim’s absence, and he told TVLine: ‘Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.

‘They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.’
