Savannah Chrisley says imprisoned father Todd has advised her on raising brother, 16, and niece, 10

Savannah Chrisley said her father Todd Chrisley has given her parenting advice amid his prison stint.

Savannah, 25, opened up Tuesday on the Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast about the struggles she’s had adapting in raising brother Grayson, 16, and niece Chloe, 10, after her parents Todd, 53, and Julie, 50, began serving their federal prison sentences earlier this month.

‘It’s been hard – it’s been hard to understand, to process and also help two kids process what’s been going on in our life,’ said Savannah, who described he past week as the toughest of her life amid the life changes.

Savannah said that Grayson had a breakdown and she had personally ‘felt defeated’ as she prepared to take Chloe to visit her relatives in prison.

‘I don’t feel adequate enough for this job,’ Savannah said, adding that she finds ‘the strength to get through it and do it.’

She referenced her mother Julie, saying: ‘I am not my mother, which I wish I was – because she is the kindest, most loving, most amazing human being I’ve ever met.

‘I always said if I could be half of her, I would be okay. I guess in moments like these, I realize I’m more like my mom than I realize because I’m getting through it.’

In the letter Todd sent, according to Savannah, he told her, ‘I want you to give yourself some grace. Fall in love with the real Savannah, the one that I raised that radiates a room with her kindness and compassion. Not the one the world wants to see

He continued in the letter, ‘Remember, to gain the world and lose your soul, then what do you have? I’ve never been more proud of you and the woman you’re becoming. You’ve been cast in the fire and what God burns off will allow you to shine brighter than gold.’

The Chrisley Knows Best couple were sentenced to federal prison November 22 in connection with their bank fraud and tax evasion convictions.

Todd was sentenced to 12 years in custody, while Julie was sentenced to seven years in custody, both with 16 months of probation. 

They began their respective sentences January 17, with Todd serving time at the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, with Julie at a facility in Lexington, Kentucky.
