A savvy mother has revealed how you can unshrink your clothes using conditioner – and claims it works in just twenty minutes.

Bonnie Wyrick, from Omaha, Nebraska, told how she accidentally shrank her floral dress in the washing machine, but instead of throwing it away, she found an unlikely solution to salvage it – using hot water and a 1/4 cup of cheap hair conditioner.

In a video shared to TikTok, Bonnie showed the difference in her dress before and after she had soaked it, and captioned the post: ‘Another tutorial on how to fix the clothes you shrink in the dryer! #diy #howto #laundryhack #clotheshack.’

And many were quick to take to the comments section in praise of the handy hack – with some even branding it ‘life-changing.’

At the start of the short clip, the mother-of-one asks her followers if they ever shrink their clothes in the dryer – before showing a shot of herself in a dress having done exactly that.

Standing in front of the mirror, Bonnie can be seen donning a strapless purple dress which appears to have shortened to above her mid-thigh.

In the next shot, she can be seen mixing a quarter cup of hair conditioner into a sink filled with hot water, before adding her dress to the formula.

She added: ‘Soak in hot water with hair conditioner for 20-30 min! Gently stretch and let dry!’

The conditioner works by relaxing the fibers of your shrunken clothes, and once these are relaxed, they become easier to stretch and reshape.

And while the top tip seems simple enough – many were astounded they hadn’t thought of it themselves.

‘Omg this might be life changing,’ wrote one, while a second enthused: ‘Great tip! This happens too often!’

A third agreed: ‘You just changed my life,’ while a fourth added: ‘Thank you!!! Love this hack!!!’

Meanwhile, a further suggested: ‘You can also hang dry things and they won’t shrink! But this is good to know just in case I throw something in the dryer accidentally!.’
