Scaffolding collapses at hotel construction site near Disney World, killing two workers who died after falling seven stories to the ground

  • Four constructions workers were preparing to pour concrete between the sixth and seventh floors of construction on a JW Marriott hotel when tragedy struck
  • Scaffolding collapsed beneath their feet, resulting in two falling to their deaths
  • A third person was able to hang on and only suffered minor injuries

  • Names of the victims have not been released, and the cause is not yet known
  • The incident, which occurred in Orange County, Florida, will be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Two construction workers died on Wednesday morning after falling seven stories from collapsed scaffolding, near Walt Disney World in Florida. 

The accident occurred at a JW Marriott hotel that is under construction, in unincorporated Orange County.

Additional workers who were on the scaffolding were not seriously injured.

There were four construction workers on the support structure at the time, WFTV reported.

The personnel were working between the sixth and seventh floors of the building when the scaffolding that was supporting them fell apart beneath their feet.

The two workers who died fell to the ground, and were pronounced dead at the scene, OCFR said. 

‘A third worker hung on and managed to climb to safety when [the] scaffold/support gave way,’ OCFR said.

That person suffered minor injuries but refused to be taken to a medical facility.

The fourth person was not injured, officials said.

The cause of the scaffolding failure is unknown at this time.

The incident will be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), authorities said.
