Schapelle Corby mocked on Today show

She’s the convicted drug smuggler who sent fans into meltdown after unveiling her debut single this week.

And Schapelle Corby copped a healthy dose of ribbing on Monday’s Today show, when then single, Palm Trees, was mercilessly mocked by the panel.

News reader Lara Vella was barely able to contain her laughter while reporting on the single’s release.

Mocked: Schapelle Corby copped a healthy dose of ribbing on Monday’s Today show, when then single, Palm Trees, was mercilessly mocked by the panel.

‘The track, Palm Trees, was created with the help of a music producer using a home made video clip last year,’ she said while loud guffaws could be heard coming from the studio floor.

Lara continued: ‘I don’t know what to say.

As more snippets of the clip were played, Sylvia Jeffreys chimed in with: ‘that’s what happens when you don’t get to preview the clip before it goes to air.’

Co-host Brenton Ragless also got in on the joke, suggesting that the dance tune could be one of the breakout hits of the new year.

‘That’s going to be on high rotation,’ he quipped. ‘surely one of the biggest hits of 2018.’

Taking to Instagram on Monday night, the famous former inmate of Kerobakan Prison unveiled her debut dance song Palm Trees, recorded with singer-songwriter Nat Zeleny.

The track, shared with Schapelle’s 193,000 followers, was accompanied by a homemade video clip featuring a montage of photos of the one-time beautician.

While the star didn’t write lyrics herself, they appeared to be an ode to her home state: ‘I’m in Queensland/ And it is sunny/ I have the palm trees/ Behind me’ the single began.

The catchy tune, which consists of elements from the techno genre, appears to have been inspired by artists such as Calvin Harris and David Guetta.

Schapelle ‘re-grammed’ the track from her collaborator Nat, who wrote: ‘So it’s taken me a little while to upload it but this is mine and @schapellecorby’s song Palm Trees. I wrote this in Cairns for a bit of a laugh and then took it into the studio to produce it and lay down our vocals. So much fun.’

Whilst it seems the track may not be a serious attempt by Schapelle to become a chart-topping sensation, many of her fans were more than impressed with what they heard.

‘Schapelle that song is almost as beautiful as you are honey. Where can I purchase it from??’ one happy listener asked.

The track was further described as a ‘banger’, ‘straight fire’, ‘a real treat’ and ‘iconic’ by her legion of fans.
