School in Sydney’s west is closed for cleaning after student tests positive to coronavirus

  • Bayanami Public School in western Sydney shut is on Wednesday for cleaning 
  • Comes after student tested from the Parramatta school positive to coronavirus
  • Close contacts of the case will be notified to isolate for 14 days and get tested

A primary school in western Sydney is closed for cleaning after a student tested positive to coronavirus. 

Bayanami Public School in Parramatta will remain shut on Wednesday after the NSW Department of Education was advised of the child’s positive test.

‘The school will be non-operational for the on-site attendance of staff and students to allow time for the school to complete the contact tracing process and have the school cleaned,’ a statement read. 

‘Additionally, close contacts of the case will be notified to undertake a 14-day self-isolation after their last contact with the case and undertake testing for COVID-19 if they develop symptoms.

The department will give a further update on Wednesday advising when the school will resume on-site learning.

NSW Health urges staff, parents and students who feel unwell or suffer flu-like symptoms to get tested.

Nearby testing clinics include Jeffrey House Clinic at 162 Marsden Street, Parramatta and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The latest case comes after NSW recorded 14 new cases on Tuesday as several virus clusters across Sydney continue to grow.
