A seven-year-old schoolboy was in a coma last night after a firework exploded in his face.

Carson Boyd reportedly lost two fingers in the accident, which happened after school on Tuesday.

The youngster, from Pollok in Glasgow, had a 12-hour operation at the city’s Royal Hospital for Children in a bid to save his hand.

He is now in a medically induced coma after his airways were damaged in the incident.

A fund-raising page set up by a family friend said Carson has ‘life-changing injuries’.

It was reported last night that Carson’s mother Chantelle, 27, found him severely injured in the street near his home.

Neighbours grabbed towels to help the youngster.

His aunt Susan Boyd, 31, told the Daily Record: ‘He lost his index and ring finger on his left hand. He had a piece of firework stuck in his left eye.’

Carson’s mother said: ‘We want to warn people what fireworks can do to a family. I’m so grateful to everyone for their help.’
