Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has returned to the beach days after coming home from his Hawaiian holiday.

The nation’s leader was spotted embracing Sydney’s clear conditions by enjoying a day out at Bronte Beach on Boxing Day with his mother Marion and his two daughters Lily and Abbey.

The outing follows criticism over Mr Morrison’s decision to leave Australia for a family vacation as his country battles its worst bushfire season yet.

The politician has spent this week in damage control attending press conferences in response to the incident.

He apologised for ‘any offence’ caused by his actions and said he believed Australians are ‘fair-minded people’ and were aware of the demands he has to juggle in his role.

Mr Morrison touched down in Sydney on Saturday evening and returned to work on Sunday, admitting he may have erred in visiting Hawaii at that time.

He said to the Australians he had upset by being away during the latest bushfire emergency: ‘I apologise for that.’

At least 873 homes have been destroyed in NSW in the bushfire season to date, as well as almost 100 in South Australia and more than a dozen in Queensland.

Temperatures cooled to 27 degrees on Thursday, as the heatwave sweeping the country settled across NSW.

Seventy bush fires continue to rage across the state as of Boxing Day, with 30 still to be contained.
