This is the terrifying moment an aggressive swordfish repeatedly tries to attack scuba divers after it gets snagged on a fishing line.

The tourists were diving off the coast of Chumphon, southern Thailand earlier this month when they encountered the furious fish.

Footage from one of the crew on a fishing boat shows how the swordfish swam frantically through the water after it was snagged on a hook.

The threatened fish was seen approaching the divers, lunging at them in an apparent attempt to pierce its sharp mouth into the people, but it was pulled away by the fisherman before it could cause any injuries.

Caught on the line the fish angrily circled the boat before it was finally able to win the tussle tearing the fishing line and swimming away.

The filmer said: ‘The fish was so angry when it was caught by the bait.

‘The swimmers could have been injured badly if the fish hadn’t been pulled away.’

Being pierced by the sharp nose of a swordfish is potentially deadly.

The footage was captured on December 13.

In 2017 a British tourist dodged death by a millimetre when he was speared in the throat by a swordfish.

Retired postman Alan Pope was in a boat preparing for a snorkelling trip in Indonesia when the fish leapt from the ocean and stabbed him in the neck.

The impact threw the 57-year-old to the floor of the boat and snapped the tip of the fish’s long bill – leaving six inches in his neck and blood gushing from the wound.

The bill – about the same size, shape and sharpness of a kitchen knife – narrowly missed all the major arteries in his neck.
