This is the shocking moment a man grabs a dog by the collar and punches it three times before dragging it away.

Footage of the violent attack, which reportedly happened in Edlington, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, has been shared hundreds of times on social media.

In the clip, a man wearing a white t-shirt, white trousers and sunglasses shows another man standing nearby something on his phone, before putting it back in his pocket and approaching the pet.

He then violently grabs the dog by its collar and lands three fierce punches on its face in front of stunned bystanders.

A topless man then appears to confront the thug as he drags the animal away and picks up his bicycle. 

The video sparked outrage on social media, with many users describing the footage as ‘disgusting’. 

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: ‘We are aware of a distressing video circulating on social media today (Friday 24 July) that shows a man hitting a dog in the face.

‘We would like to reassure all those who have expressed their concern that this matter is being taken extremely seriously. 

‘Officers in Doncaster are working hard to trace the individual who will be spoken to in connection with this incident.

‘The welfare of the dog has been checked and we can confirm that all is well.

‘Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting inc 664 of 24 July 2020.’

An RSPCA spokeswoman added: ‘We’re aware of this upsetting video and we are looking into this as a matter of urgency. Anyone with information should call us on 0300 1234 999.’
