One person has been killed and two more have been left in a critical condition in an apparent random shooting in North Seattle, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, the male suspect, who lives in the area, emerged from his home with a gun and attempted to car-jack a female driver.

During the attempted robbery in the Lake City neighborhood, the driver, a 57-year-old woman, was shot and critically injured.

The suspect is then said to have opened fire at an on-coming King County Metro bus, striking the driver.

Having been shot in the chest, the bus driver is said to have put his vehicle into reverse and driven for a few blocks. before pressing an emergency button and alerting police to the scene at 4:05 pm.

Images of the green and yellow Metro vehicle show multiple rounds were fired through the windshield of the bus, but remarkably none of the other 12 passengers on-board were harmed.

‘My understanding is, even after he had been struck by gunfire, he was able to maneuver the bus, to back out, and get his passengers to safety, before hitting the emergency alarm button,’ said Metro spokesman Jeff Switzer.

As police rushed to the scene, the gunman then carjacked another vehicle, shooting and killing the driver before driving away.

A high-speed pursuit then ensued between the suspect and police. During the chase, a 70-year-old driver collided with the suspect’s vehicle head-on and suffered fatal injuries, dying at the scene.

Police say they were eventually able to persuade the suspect to surrender his weapon and exit the immobilized vehicle.
