SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Frisky Sarah Miles, 79, has a new love… and he’s 20 years her junior

Oscar-nominated Sarah Miles is famed for drinking her own urine each day and for her roll call of famous lovers.

She married screenwriter Robert Bolt (twice) and had affairs with Laurence Olivier, her co-star on Ryan’s Daughter Robert Mitchum and film-maker Steven Spielberg. And now the spirited actress has added to their number, acquiring a new lover at the age of 79.

The Essex-born star tells me she has been spending lockdown in her medieval manor house in West Sussex with her new partner, who is a lawyer and 20 years her junior.

‘He’s called Jeeves — the name was his idea,’ she giggles girlishly. ‘And we’ve been having a wonderful time.’

Miles is coy about divulging his full identity, revealing only that he lives locally and that their romance did not flourish through secret trysts and snatched kisses. ‘We started playing chess and backgammon and then things developed,’ she says.

She was less forthcoming about his attributes as a lover. ‘I don’t discuss my love life on the phone.’

Jeeves’s nickname is typical of the actress’s playful and mischievous character.

She called Olivier ‘Lionel’ during their on-off 20-year affair, because ‘he was obsessed with Richard the Lionheart’. He used to call her ‘Pussycat’.

She lived briefly with Spielberg in Los Angeles (‘He was charming, just like a little boy — though it was our dogs who fell in love first’).

She also had a schoolgirl crush on her Roedean contemporary, the future Baroness Chalker, and was mesmerised by ‘her ample breasts’.

Renowned for her quirky eccentricities and belief in crop circles, time bends and the healing power of dolphins, Miles has turned her home into a healing centre.

‘She had people living in yurts and popping in and out,’ a pre-pandemic visitor tells me.

Her previous lover, a gambling addict, cleaned her out completely and she vowed never to have another partner. So it is good to hear she has changed her mind and returned to the amorous fray.

Hills are alive with the sound of Trudie

IT’S not Austria, but that didn’t stop Sting’s wife, Trudie Styler, from attempting to re-enact the classic scene from The Sound Of Music, starring Julie Andrews.

The film producer, 67, has spent the past year with Sting at their 16th-century Tuscan villa, Il Palagio, from where she posted this picture of herself in a multi-coloured dress, singing at the top her lungs with arms outstretched.

‘Finish this caption,’ she wrote playfully online. ‘The hills are alive with the sound of…’

It’s been six years since she directed the Fifty Shades Of Grey film, which took more than £400 million at the box office, but Sam Taylor-Johnson admits she’s still recovering. ‘Fifty Shades Of Misery — it was two years of discomfort,’ she says. ‘I would daily suffer through the machinations of madness and think: “Why did I decide to become a film-maker? This is just pure hell.” I learned a huge amount — not necessarily things I wanted to learn.’

Fergie’s magnolia tribute

She did all she could to prove herself worthy of his affection — and forgiveness. But despite her best efforts, Sarah, Duchess of York, never totally persuaded Prince Philip to bring her fully back into the fold following her split from his son.

Nevertheless, I can disclose that Fergie, 61, is to mark the Duke of Edinburgh’s death by planting a magnolia tree in his honour at Royal Lodge, the Windsor residence she and Prince Andrew share. ‘The magnolia will blossom every year around the time of Prince Philip’s death,’ Fergie’s friend assures me. When her daughters and former husband attend Philip’s funeral this Saturday, she will watch it on television — ‘like the public’, explains a friend.

The Duchess’s relationship with the Duke of Edinburgh never recovered from a weekend she spent at Balmoral in 1992 which coincided with publication of photos showing her reclining, topless, by a pool in France as her toes were sucked by her American ‘financial adviser’ John Bryan.

Hats off to Lady Henrietta Rous, sister of the Earl of Stradbroke. At 72, she has completed her first half-marathon — days after injuring her right leg. ‘I fell down the stairs,’ Lady Henrietta tells me. ‘I damaged my ankle.’ Others might have pulled out. But not Henrietta, who was running for Amnesty International in the Royal Parks Half Marathon. ‘I hobbled along. Hyde Park was looking so beautiful,’ she said.

Big step for Supernova and her lad

Supermodel Natalia Vodianova is getting a kick out of her teenage son’s stylish new venture. The 39-year-old, who is married to French millionaire Antoine Arnault, shared a picture of herself at home in Paris sporting an oversized jumper and £286 trainers designed by none other than her eldest of five, Lucas, 19.

‘Can you tell I’m excited?’ she says ahead of the launch of his eco-friendly label Fashion Baby. ‘The fact he is using high-end vegan leathers and suedes, and striving for zero-waste production, is what will make his brand stand out.’

Lucas’s father is Natalia’s former husband, Justin Portman, son of property heir the 9th Viscount Portman.

Freedom is . . . bags of style for Lady Kitty

Many of us flocked to the pub to celebrate the end of lockdown this week, but Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Kitty Spencer, is more focused on getting her fashion fix.

The 30-year-old daughter of Earl Spencer left a building in London carrying large shopping bags, including one from the retail giant Net-A-Porter.

Having been unable to go to the shops in the last few months, the Dolce & Gabbana model, who wore a floral dress, pink jacket and stilettos for the occasion, instead spent time at home in the capital with her fiance, £80 million fashion tycoon Michael Lewis, 62.
