Sefer Seferi claims he be Tyson Fury’s comeback opponent on June 9

Albanian boxer Sefer Seferi has revealed he will be the man to face former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in his comeback fight on June 9.

Fury, who showed off his new British Boxing Board of Control licence on Monday having had his suspended amid an alleged failed drug test and medical issues, will step into the ring at the Manchester Arena in two months for the first time since dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.

Promoter Frank Warren, who Fury has signed a multi-fight deal with, has not confirmed who his opponent will be, but according to 20 minutes Seferi has claimed it will be him.

‘This would make a dream come true. I never thought I’d have the chance to stand against Fury – my idol,’ Seferi told them.

‘Fury is a boxing legend of the 21st century. He is tall, has weight and strength, moves to it quite easily, and he has dethroned Wladimir Klitschko. Fury is a bear.’

Seferi, who normally fights at cruiserweight, will have to pack on the pounds in order to step up a division to face the Gypsy King but has done so before, having lost a unanimous points decision to Manuel Charr for the vacant WBA international heavyweight title in 2016.

The 39-year-old is planning to enter training camp as soon as possible and will head to Hamburg for sparring in the coming weeks.

He is keeping himself ticking over in the gym at the moment by training ever day and insists he is coming to upset the apple cart, though admitted he would feel ‘no shame’ in losing to Fury.

‘I’m very disciplined and always ready for a fight,’ the Macedonian-born boxer – who has won 23 of his 24 professional fights – added.

‘I will not make it easy for Fury. I will try to put pressure on him. Someone has to stand up to him in the build-up.’

Despite Seferi’s reported claims, Shannon Briggs – who returned to training earlier this year after serving a six-month ban for failing a doping test with elevated testosterone levels – is tipped to be Fury’s first fight in two-and-a-half years.

Former Anthony Joshua victims Gary Cornish and Kevin Johnson are both also possible opponents as Fury looks to restart his career and journey back towards world honours.
