A senior police officer has been charged with having sex with a girl under the age of 10.
The serving New South Wales Police officer is accused of historic child sexual offences dating back to the 1990s.
He was arrested at his home at 9.45am on Thursday and taken to Belmont Police Station, south of Newcastle.

The senior constable faces two charges of having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and six charges of indecent assault on a child under the age of 10.
The man has been bailed and will appear at Toronto Local Court on March 28.
He has not been sacked.
