Serena Williams breaks her social media silence

Tennis star Serena Williams broke her social media silence since giving birth to her daughter one week ago, tweeting praise on Friday to American US Open finalists Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens.

‘There are NO words to describe how proud and how happy I am for @Madison_Keys keys and @SloaneStephens for making the US open finals,’ Williams wrote.

‘These amazing women continue to change the game and bring excellence, power, finesse and change to tennis.

‘What a joy it will be to watch this- hopefully first of many finals. Let’s go ladies!’

The Saturday showdown between the two women at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, will be the first Grand Slam final for each of them.

It makes the match even more of an event as Keys or Stephens will be the first American woman to claim her first Grand Slam tennis singles’ title since Jennifer Capriati’s turn back in 2001.

While Williams has been the dominant force in American tennis and women’s tennis, it’s clear that Keys, 22, and Stephens, 24, are products of a generation that watched the 35-year-old achieve her glory.
