Serena Williams shows fans her home beauty treatment

Serena Williams has shared her night time beauty routine with her 12 million followers – and it is just as rigorous as her tennis training regime.

The athlete, who has 39 grand slam titles to her name, took to Instagram on Tuesday to film her complex beauty routine as she got ready for bed with a glass of Prosecco in hand.

The mother-of-one, who was already kitted out in pink, animal print pyjamas, began ‘Serena’s Beauty Tips’ in a full face of make-up with her hair tied back in a low bun.

‘So some of my hardest decisions when I go to bed is what mask am I going to wear,’ she explained. ‘I have masks everywhere’.

Serena then panned across her bathroom counter to show dozens of face masks piled on top of each other, before turning to show a drawer – aptly labelled ‘sheet masks’ – full of the products.

After her quick bathroom tour, the mother-of-one began to ‘take her make-up off for the day’ with cloth make-up removers given to her by her mother.

‘My mom gave me these make-up removers which I love because they don’t get my other towels totally ruined’, she said.

‘One product I really fell in love with is this Amore Pacific’, Serena went on to explain. ‘It’s really good for removing make-up, and then everyone knows I use retinol cream, but I’m not going to to use that tonight’.

‘I’m going to try an enzyme cleanser by Dr Sturm tonight to see how that works’.

Serena went on to explain that she likes to ‘trial products’ rather than be a ‘just one product girl’, before showing her followers a view of dozens of products sat on her counter.

‘Then when I figure out something that I like I kind of stick with it for about a year or two,’ she added.

The tennis star then gave her followers an overview of some of the products she currently enjoys, including a La Roche-Posay cleanser and a Mario Badescu setting spray.

‘I just finished cleaning my skin, there’s nothing on my face, no filter, no nothing,’ Serena said as she continued her skincare routine. ‘I’m going to try this manuka honey [mask] that my friend got me from Korea.’

‘I was in cold weather and manuka honey moisturizes your skin so I wanted something that would bring a lot of moisture to it.’

After she let the sheet mask sit for 20 minutes, and enjoyed a glass of Prosecco, she messaged any leftover product into her skin and neck.

‘After I am done with my sheet mask I massage it into my skin and any leftover I put on my neck and my hands’, she said. ‘And then it’s serum time’.

‘So I am trying this super anti-aging serum because maybe it will make me move faster and be younger on the court, so I’m going to try that and I’m also trying this retinol serum.

‘I was told if you want to use this light mask, use a serum first’.

She then explained she takes ‘special care’ with her eyes and applies a different serum underneath on her ‘dark bags’.

‘We are close to the end, don’t give up on me now, now’s the time to apply your mask.

‘You apply it only after you have a serum,’ Serena explains, placing the DMH Aesthetics Light Shield on her face.

WHAT IS AN LED FACE MASK?

Light-therapy masks are a skincare tool which work by shining different types of LED light rays into your skin.

At-home LED masks can help with minor acne and rosacea, while in-office treatments are much more powerful and effective.

According to dermatologist Mona Gohara, ‘blue lights can help kill acne-causing bacteria on the surface of your skin, while the red lights can help boost collagen production and decrease irritation.’

The masks, which are worn by the likes of actress Vanessa Hudgens, can also help with wrinkles, whiteheads, redness, and spots.

‘I like the red light because it’s anti-aging, but there’s also different colours. There’s a blue like for acne and then there’s an amber light for discolouration which sometimes I do need to do.

‘I always talk about how much I love this mask because I can move my hands, I don’t have to lie flat, but I still get all the benefits’.

She then enjoyed another glass of Processo while she sat with the mask on for 15 minutes.

‘So the timer’s done, that was fast,’ Serena said as she removed the mask. ‘Boom, look at that. Moisturized indeed.’

For her last skincare step, the mother-of-one applied a product by MZ Skin which contains placenta and stem cells, alongside another eye cream.

‘Alright, goodnight,’ she said. ‘Serena beauty is done for the day’.
