Seven Woolworths in Victoria close after staff test positive to coronavirus 

Seven more Woolworths stores across Victoria including six within the last 24 hours temporarily closed after staff tested positive to the deadly coronavirus.

The supermarkets in Sebastopol near Ballarat, and Blackburn North and Cranbourne North in Melbourne’s east, all closed overnight to undergo a deep clean. 

The stores in Point Cook in Melbourne’s south-west, and St Helena and St Kilda in the city’s northeast also closed overnight on Thursday while the Cranbourne East Woolworths shut on Saturday night for cleaning.

All supermarkets had team members contract the virus except the Blackburn North Woolworths, where a contractor tested positive.

The seven stores have since reopened to customers and team members.

At St Kilda the infected employee last worked on August 4, in St Helena their last shift was July 20, and in Point Cook on August 1.

In Cranbourne East the worker’s last shift was July 16, in Cranbourne North July 25, in Blackburn North July 31, and Sebastopol on July 23. 

‘As a food retailer, we already have very high standards of cleaning and hygiene in place,’ Woolworths said in a statement on its website.

‘As an extra precautionary measure (all stores) will close overnight for an additional deep clean.

‘While the risk of transmission to customers and team members is low, the safety and wellbeing of the local community is our priority.’

The supermarket giant urged anyone who visited the stores on those dates to watch for symptoms.
